This is the great paradox of life. We spend years searching for the grand things. Success, recognition, achievement, wealth, power and climbing the highest mountain.
At the end of the day, purpose is not found in applause, ownership or power. It is found in knowing that someone’s life became lighter because you we were present.
Meaning hides in small moments: listening again to same story told by an elderly friend; sunlight breaking through the trees, a phone call or email from an old friend; a stranger offering kindness. These moments are life itself, quiet evidence of God’s presence in His creation. How He uses people in our lives.
Many times, however, not all the moments are pleasant. . But you and I can each find meaning in what is given each day.
There has been lots of talk about AI, or artificial intelligence. This makes truth more urgent. Machines can imitate language, analyze behavior and manufacture convincing images. But they cannot experience the sacredness of human encounter. They cannot truly love, forgive, sacrifice, grieve or stand in awe before God.
AI many reproduce the words. “ I am here,” but it cannot sit through the night beside a sick friend. It cannot give a hug to strengthen some one who just needs a good hug.
It is easy to be kind when everyone is kind to us. The greater test is remaining kind after someone has been unkind to us. It is easy to believe when everything falls into place. Faith begins when we continue searching for the hand of God even when our story is written in a way we cannot yet understand.
Perhaps our best part is simply this: to remain capable of wonder after disappointment, generous after betrayal, faithful amid uncertainty, and present when others need us most. It is to love our families through sickness and death. To become the rare friend who does not disappear when storms arrive, and to remain alive to the ordinary miracle God places before us every day.
Perhaps life was never about conquering the world. Perhaps it is about passing through the world without allowing the world to conquer the best part of who we are.
That’s the best part of us!
